Stories of Our Impact

Freddy
Supportive Housing
Freddy, a 62 year old, spent his life working in steel factories before retirement. Before moving into his residence at ALA, Freddy was living in his van in the Inglewood community.

Now, he lives at the Janet Witkin Center and pays 30% of his $877 for rent.
Mary
Affordable Housing
Mary, 68, was facing increasing medical costs and relying on public assistance for her meals. As a result she could not afford her rent.

Today, she is a resident at ALA’s El Greco building where her rent is no more than 30% of her fixed income.
Frances
Shared Housing
Frances, a 99 year-old homeowner living alone in her home of 60 years, had a need for support and security. Frances' family approached ALA.

ALA matched Frances with Ben, a young adult who pays her discounted rent + daily living support.
