The excerpt below is from the National Shared Housing Resource Center's January newsletter.
Representatives from across the country gathered in Los Angeles to participate in the Shared Housing Symposium, which was held November 27. The event brought together leaders in housing, community development, and planning industry with funders and representatives from social service agencies. Participants represented programs from: California, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey, Michigan, Illinois, and Vermont.
The symposium, hosted by Affordable Living for the Aging, featured panels and presenters who spoke about the differences between current programs and discussed new shared housing applications. David Grunwald, ALA's CEO, emphasized the importance of creating a collective vision and increasing collaboration between programs. Rebecca Sheppard, co-president of the NSHRC, described shared housing as a tool for helping communities remain vibrant places to live where people have access to social connections and support. Participants left the symposium energized and ready to help shared housing become a well-known option in the industry of affordable housing.
