ALA honors Maureen Kindel, Mercedes Márquez and Hon. Herb Wesson at Annual Awards Gala

June 7, 2013, Los Angeles

ALA was proud to honor three community heroes at The Timeless Janet L Witkin Awards Gala and Silent Auction on June 6th at the Beverly Wilshire: Maureen Kindel, ED.D, Principal, Kindel Gagan (Sheldon W. Andelson Award), Mercedes Márquez, Deputy Mayor for Housing and General Manager of the LA Housing Department (Janet L. Witkin Humanitarian Award) and The Honorable Herb J. Wesson, Jr., Council President, City of Los Angeles (ALA Community Service Award).

The theme of this year’s annual Gala was YESTERDAY, TODAY, TOMORROW.  The title helps us reflect on a basic truth about life and aging: that time is passing every day, for all of us.  It’s how we grow older and how we envision new possibilities for ourselves that makes aging an enriching or constricting experience. At ALA, we believe that everyone has the capacity to achieve difficult and amazing feats at any age, however, not everyone can do it without a little help.
